Southern Regional Assembly

The Southern Regional Assembly is one of the regional assemblies established for the regions set out in the 2014 establishment order. Regional assemblies exercise the general functions of a regional authority under the Local Government Act 1991 and functions connected with regional spatial and economic strategies, local economic and community plans, and assistance from the European Union. The director of the former Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly could stand appointed as director of the Southern Regional Assembly.

The assembly was established when the Local Government Act 1991 (Regional Assemblies) (Establishment) Order 2014 (S.I. No. 573 of 2014) came into operation on 1 January 2015. That order was made under the Local Government Act 1991.
