MCP

Use Public Purse inside Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok

Add the URL below. When it asks you to sign in, use the same email as your Public Purse account. You need an active raw data licence.

https://publicpurse.ie/mcp

Claude

  1. Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector
  2. Name it Public Purse and paste https://publicpurse.ie/mcp
  3. Sign in when the browser opens. Magic link, same as the site.

Ask: “What did Kerry County Council spend on housing in 2025?”

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http publicpurse https://publicpurse.ie/mcp

It will open a browser to sign in.

ChatGPT

Use your ChatGPT work account (Business, Team, or Enterprise) — not a personal Free/Plus chat. Custom connectors live under the workspace, so the personal “general chat” account won’t show the right screens.

  1. Open chatgpt.com and switch to your work workspace (workspace switcher in the sidebar or top left — not your personal account).
  2. Open Settings (profile menu → Settings).
  3. Go to Apps, Connectors, or Plugins (the label depends on your plan). If you don’t see a way to add a custom connector, turn on Developer mode under Settings → Security / Advanced (wording varies).
  4. Choose Add connector / Create / the plus button for a custom MCP server.
  5. Name it Public Purse and paste this URL: https://publicpurse.ie/mcp
  6. Complete the sign-in flow in the browser. Use the same email as your Public Purse account (magic link, same as the website).
  7. Start a new chat in that work workspace. Attach or enable Public Purse with + / apps menu, or type @Public Purse if your UI supports it.

If ChatGPT answers without looking up spending data, say explicitly: “use the Public Purse connector” in the question.

Grok

  1. Settings → Connectors
  2. Add an MCP server named Public Purse
  3. URL https://publicpurse.ie/mcp, transport HTTP
  4. Sign in when prompted

Naming the connector in the question helps the first time: “using the Public Purse connector, …”.

What it can do

  • search — find published payments
  • fetch — open one result
  • list_entities / get_entity — public bodies
  • list_publications / get_publication — releases
  • search_line_items / get_line_item — individual payments

Read-only. Drafts are not included.

Things to ask

  • “What has Dublin City Council published this year?”
  • “Find payments to housing associations over €1 million.”
  • “Who received the largest payment in the latest Kerry release?”
