Data Protection Commission

The Data Protection Commission is the independent national authority that upholds the right to data protection by enforcing data protection law and monitoring compliance with it. It succeeded the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

The Commission came into being on 25 May 2018 under the Data Protection Act 2018. The long title of that Act is to establish An Coimisiún um Chosaint Sonraí, the Data Protection Commission, to give further effect to the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and to give effect to Directive (EU) 2016/680.
