The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland is the public body charged with encouraging sustainable energy and helping it develop. Its founding Act styles it both Sustainable Energy Ireland and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, and later orders have added further tasks, including work on energy efficiency.
It was established on 1 May 2002. Section 4 of the Sustainable Energy Act 2002 created the Authority on the establishment day, and S.I. No. 655 of 2002 appointed that day.
